E L I Z A B E T H A N E R A Queen Elizabeth I was a good queen. She helped the commoners through bad times and reigned for 44 years. Back then times were very different; their food, entertainment, religion and lifestyle was very different to the way we live today. In this time period great accomplishments were made and many improvements to society as well! |
Religion Elizabeth managed to handle religious situations. There were many different conflicts and they were handled properly.
Elizabeth herself even said "I have no desire to make windows into men's souls". The Pope thought differently and sent the members of the society of Jesus to try and convert people to christianity. There were also plots made to overthrow her from the throne! |
EntertainmentEntertainment in England back then was a big thing because there were no modern day appliances like we have today. Going to the theatre or a performance was something they did a lot. Theatre: As Shakespeare's plays became a big hit in England, going to the theatre to watch plays was a big thing back then and to this day too! Music: Travelling musicians were in big demand. Important composers that performed were William Byrd and John Dowland. The composers were commissioned by churches and the court and deployed styles like folk songs and ballads. |
lifestyleThe life in the "Elizabethan times" was made for improving situations with new ideas in the Science and Literature departments. Although the lifestyle wasn't great with the "Bubonic Plague" outbreak and millions dying, which made things worse, the main problem in past times was sickness and unhygienic people.
